GALEXView: The new interface to GALEX data

The GALEXView (galex.stsci.edu/GalexView) web interface provides dynamic, fast, and flexible searching and previewing of GALEX data. This “Rich Internet Application” is based on Adobe Flex technology and brings dynamic image and catalog browsing and manipulation to a browser. GALEXView is web-service based, modular and VO-aware. Data access protocols (ConeSearch, SIAP, SSAP, etc) and VO formats are implicitly understood and rendered. This initial release showcases GALEXView visualization capabilities such as dynamic catalog and image overlays, uploading of target lists with visual cross-correlation and metadata filtering using both conditional expressions and graphical selection. We are working to provide all these capabilites using network access to multiple missions and catalogs. Our future plans also include the extension of GALEXView to an integrated analysis tool that runs in Abobe AIR runtime on the user's desktop in a model we call the "Archive To the Desktop".
